I ended up getting Waking Life, Ocean's Eleven, The Man Who Wasn't There, and Moulin Rouge.

I hate movies with huge gaps in the plots so I'll probably hate Ocean's Eleven. I despise musicals so I'll probably hate Moulin Rouge.

I like bizarre movies so I'll probably enjoy Waking Life.

I loved Training Day, but haven't seen the others you've mentioned. I should have gotten The Others instead of Moulin. I am looking forward to From Hell. I have a fascination with the Jack the Ripper tales so I'll like that.

Don't bother renting The Deep End. The only thing suspenseful about it was if the movie would ever end.

I like musicals, and I loathed Moulin Rouge. One of the few that I actually turned off after 20 minutes. Something about seeing club performers from 100 years ago singing Nirvana songs that just irritated the heck out of me.

Let me know what you think of the ones you got.

My son requested Moulin Rouge. He said that it was the kind of movie that would be fun to make fun of if we hated it. I imagine it won't be on very long.

Ocean's Eleven verged on the truly terrible but son and hubby enjoyed it. They don't mind the plot inconsistencies and the suspension of belief in reality that the film required. I still don't think Brad Pitt can act.

My First Mister and Donnie Darko are both really good.

I thought the sets were gorgeous and the cinematography was excellent. Those were the only positives that I saw. I didn't even mind the modern music at the Moulin Rouge. I couldn't stand the overly emotive acting, and the terrible dialogue (can speaking in song titles really be considered dialogue?). We were hoping for Plan Nine From Outer Space bad, but this one was just boringly bad.

If you like film noire you'll enjoy The Man Who Wasn't There.I liked it a lot.

I also like musicals, but this one seemed to me to be the creation of a brain fried by drugs.

The fact that it received so many prises irritated me more than the movie itself.

The tempo was insane, and it moved from one scene to another, and one song to another without any rhyme or reason.

To me, Moulin Rouge was to music and musicals what all you can eat is to cuisine.

It gives indigestion, and doesn't do much for the palate.

I collect musical albums and I've seen a lot of stage and screen musicals. Moulin Rouge has a great soundtrack, but the movie itself gets tedious very fast. There are some enjoyable moments, but the film thinks so highly of its own importance, that it quickly becomes an overblown bore.

Dana, if you want to see an enjoyable awful musical, on the level of Plan Nine from Outer Space, get the video of At Long Last Love. This is truly awful, but fun to watch and see how bad it gets. Burt Reynolds and Cybil Shepard are both totally miscast. Neither can sing or dance, and the dialouge is unbelievable bad. One of the best awful movies of all time.

I'll definitely put At Long Last Love on the bad movies to see list. I can't imagine either Burt or Cybil singing and dancing so it does sound fun in a terrible way. *G*

The one that sticks in my mind is Paint Your Wagon. I've never seen it in its entirety but Clint Eastwood singing was astoundingly awful, yet entertaining.

Poor Eastwood! I love his westerns, but Joyce Wells "Are you going to pull 'dem pistols or just stand there and wistle dixie" is much more his style than singing.

You're right, paint you wagon is comical, not harmonical...

One of the worst films to come out in recent decades. Horrible storyline, cast, "music", & direction. Only the set decorations were decent.

Go watch "The Music Man" with Robert Preston if you want a great musical. :)

I don't generally like musicals and I do like bizarre.

I loved the spectacle, the mixture of old and new in both music and style, and I could even put up with the so-called love story. And the pace was refreshing.
