We have them here in the Pacific Northwest. I thought they were a huge well fed ghetto rat. Like a beaver they seem to live near freshwater sources or brackish sloughs. They compete with the ducks for bread when I go to feed the ducks and geese. I cannot say I care for them as they are the only rodent bigger than the cat sized Saudi rats. I do prefer them to opossums though as they do not seem as agressive as a 'possu'..they have webbed rodent feet and huge orange incissors..

I wasn't hallucinating....lol. It definitely wasn't as ugly as an oppossum. I'm sure after all the rain we've had that the woods are full of brackish water. It seemed to be headed toward the bird table, so maybe it was looking for food.
