Subject: Fast and the Furious (to Clint mainly)

I didn't want to post this on DP, after Schremmer's post. He'd be offended and probably jump my ass.

I saw The Fast and the Furious last night, with my husband and his best friend, they're both heavily into cars, and have more hands-on experience than Schremmer has, including building race cars (both drag and Formula 1). The mechanical aspect IS believable, and Schremmer's comment about the $100,000 dollar engine showed that he didn't pay any attention to the movie. The main group consistently talked about spending about 10 grand on an engine, which you know is entirely possible if you want a high-performance engine, especially with a Nos set up. The only time a hundred grand was mentioned was when one guy decided to race against a Vietnamese guy for pink slips. One of the guys told him not to do it because "he probably has a hundred grand under his hood". They never said he HAD spent that much, and it seemed to be more of an exageration to point out that the Vietnames has so much money (organized crime) that he could afford the best of everything, compared to the other guy, who hadn't done much to his car except add a nitrous system.

The movie was good, we all liked it, though it was kind of disappointing that all the cars (except for one) were very late model cars instead of the more classic drag cars.

I don't know much about cars, but have followed racing (a bit) since I was born as my dad used to race stock cars (and my brother used to race his bike). I LOVE speed (cars and motorcycles) so this movie was great to me ;) I did notice all the cars were older models than I thought they would be. And I wanted to see more motorcycle racing ;)

Most of them were new models, except for a couple, I'm pretty sure. I'll ask my husband, he knows the year and make of every car in the darn thing. LOL.

Just rode my bike back from a date upstate, 90 miles and I made it in just over an hour. Was only able to average about 45mph through a 1/3rd of the ride (the very tight & twisty wooded part, where deer are also a factor), but once I hit the thruway, well, you do the math ;-)

As for The Fast & The Furious, I was looking forward to that movie for months, and wasn't disappointed. Sure, I wish they would've shown more crotch-rockets and actual races, but all in all it was a fun flick. Much better than what we saw tonight, Scary Movie 2. Be afraid, be very afraid of a part 3!!

Being that I know your hubby has knowledge about cars, I'll take your word. Guess I'll rent the movie. I don't do movie theaters because of the fking cell phones, talking and farting some of the ignorant people do. I'm afraid I'll jerk a cell phone from one of them and slam it over their head.
One of the cars in the previews is a 68 or 69 Dodge Charger which they wreck...The wheel standing one..

Yeah, the Charger was the one older one that I mentioned. It was saved til the very end, it was Diesel's (isn't that a fitting name for the star of a car movie? LOL) dad was a legit racer, and it was his car. The explanation about dad, what happened to him, and Diesel's character's involvement give a good reason for the whole movie.
