Good morning ladies! I find myself on the edge of my seat this morning as I come to write. What I have seen this morning has taken me to a place of remembrance and I want to share it with you. Let's start with a couple of verses from Nehemiah and then I am going to share a personal experience with you. My prayer is that you will be encouraged this morning.
Nehemiah 9:20 YOU gave YOUR GOOD SPIRIT to instruct them. YOU did not withhold your manna from their mouths, and YOU gave them water for their thirst.
Before I move on the next couple of verses I want to tell you that that verse is extremely exciting to me. Ladies, GOD has given us HIS HOLY SPIRIT to instruct our hearts. HE offers us the manna of HIS WORD and the thirst quenching water of HIS PRECIOUS SON. If I never write another word those words are worth remembering forever. HE HAS GIVEN US WHAT WE NEED.
Let's move back to Nehemiah 8 for a minute and then I am going to Exodus 4. For the sake of time and space in this email I am going to type Nehemiah 8:12 for you and ask you to go back and read 8:7-12 on your own. This is COOL! Then all the people went away to eat and drink, to send portions of food and to celebrate with great joy, BECAUSE THEY NOW UNDERSTOOD THE WORDS THAT HAD BEEN MADE KNOWN TO THEM.
It appears to me that the children of Israel are having some sort of personal revival in their lives. They are spending large amounts of time in the WORD of GOD and they are repenting and getting their hearts right with HIM. As I read this encounter this morning my heart went back and I want to share with you Exodus 4. I won't type it all here I will ask you to go back and read Exodus 4:1-14. This is the account of GOD coming to Moses and sending him back to Egypt. This is the place where GOD stood before me and said to my heart, "Vicky, this IS where the rubber meets the road. You WILL make a choice NOW. WILL you follow ME?" Perhaps, you are sitting in your chair right now saying, "UH...Vick, I don't see that written here. Where in the world do you get that from." It was Feb. 2002 and it was on the tail end of an extremely difficult time in my life. My friend sent me Exodus 4:1-14 with the following instructions. Read these verses and email me back what they mean IN YOUR LIFE TODAY. I don't know that I had ever looked at scripture that way before...What it meant IN MY LIFE. I opened and turned and began reading. I didn't ask GOD for any revelation I didn't ask HIM to speak to me; I merely started reading. As I read I could hear Dr. Vines explaining what all of the symbolism in the chapter was about. Moses staff was his security and so on. I read it and I sat there and I said, "Hmmm...OK. It means the same thing today that it meant the last time I heard a sermon on this chapter. BUT then I turned and began to write and what GOD gave me that night in front of my keyboard was anything but the same thing I heard the last time I heard this sermon. Ladies, HIS HOLY SPIRIT came and made these words so real and so personal in my life that I would never be the same again. As I read Nehemiah this morning I was taken back to Exodus. Let me tell you why I think this was so. In Nehemiah 8:7-12 we see the people being taught and instructed in the WORD of GOD. As I read those verses I stopped and I wrote: "Thank you FATHER, for giving us GODLY people to teach us YOUR WORD. Thank you for the faithful soldiers who have taught me along the way." I could have written a whole devo on just that, but I kept reading in Nehemiah and I came to
Nehemiah 9:20 and I was reminded of a time when GOD SHOOK MY WORLD. I tell you that because it is great to have teachers to help us understand the WORD of GOD...we all need that. If I had never heard Dr. Vines preach about Moses and this whole encounter I might not have heard the HOLY SPIRIT that night. GOD had already sent people to do a tremendous amount of ground work in my life, but I believe that Nehemiah 9:20 says it all: YOU gave YOUR GOOD SPIRIT to instruct them (ME). YOU did not withhold YOUR manna from their (MY) mouths, and YOU gave them (ME) water for their (MY) thirst.
I needed the prior instruction that I had received along the way, and then I needed to get alone with the LORD JESUS and have HIM SPEAK HIS WORD DIRECTLY INTO MY HEART. That ladies, is what happened in Feb. 2002 and I have never been the same. My prayer is that each of you will come to the place where you hunger for this type of encounter with the LORD JESUS. You see, with all of my heart I believe HE is waiting to meet you EXACTLY where you are standing. HE wants to ask you, "Ma'am today is the day to decide: Will you follow ME?"
