Good morning sweet ladies! I want to share with you this morning a couple verses from Nehemiah 9 and 10. Let's jump right into the WORD.
Nehemiah 9:36-38 and 10:28-30
"But see, we are slaves today, slaves in the land YOU gave our forefathers so they could eat its fruit and the other good things it produces. Because of our sins, it abundant harvest goes to the kings YOU have placed over us. They rule over our bodies and our cattle as they please. We are in great distress. In view of all this, we are making a binding agreement, putting it in writing, and our leaders, our Levites and our priests are affixing their seals to it.
The rest of the people--priests, Levites, gatekeepers, singers, temple servants and all who separated themselves from the neighboring peoples for the sake of the LAW OF GOD, together with their wives and all their sons and daughters who are able to understand--all these now join their brothers the nobles, and bind themselves with a curse and an oath to follow the LAW OF GOD given through Moses the servant of GOD and to obey carefully all the commands, regulations and decrees of the LORD our LORD. We promise not to give our daughters in marriage to the peoples around us or take their daughters for our son.
I know, you want to know what does this have to do with MY (YOUR) LIFE today in 2006. I believe with all of my heart the principles we see here in these verses will change our lives if we will live according to them. In our modern day we don't bind ourselves with curses and oaths, but ladies, we do make commitments and take a stand of no compromise. The principle here is what I believe is the overwhelming theme throughout the WORD OF GOD. The children of Israel have made a commitment to live OBEDIENT lives according to the WORD OF GOD. What I have noticed in my time in the WORD over the course of the last few years is that obedience in our lives brings the blessing of GOD on our lives. If we would be willing to be obedient regardless of what is may appear to cost us in this world, we would see the hand of GOD move in our lives mightily. JESUS said that our obedience would the litmus test that proves our love for HIM. These people promised to obey GOD's WORD. In verse 30 we see a stand of NO COMPROMISE. They said in effect, "We will NOT BE MOVED from this position." Why did they take this stand? Because it was what the LAW OF GOD called for. There will be times in our lives when we must make the choice of taking a stand that may appear radical, fanatical, and just plain stupid to those around us. Ladies, I believe with all of my heart that GOD will bless this kind of commitment to HIS WORD.
Important to remember here is this: If we make a commitment to obey the WORD this means that we are committing to make ourselves available to spend time studying HIS WORD and asking HIM to pour HIMSELF into our lives as we pour over the pages of HIS WORD. Ladies, lets get on our knees and get prepared for the battle that we are already living in!
FATHER, draw us to YOUR WORD. Bring us to place where we realize that we can accomplish nothing without the moving of YOUR mighty hand. May we get serious and get committed to following YOU ACCORDING to YOUR WORD. May we have hearts that hunger and thirst for YOUR WORD. Fill us with a desire to KNOW YOU more clearly and to love YOU more dearly every day. Where we lack this commitment, FILL US WITH MORE OF YOUR HOLY SPIRIT. Where we feel worn down and defeated, bring us to the place where we can lay ourselves at YOUR feet and trust YOU to do in and through us what YOU DESIRE TO DO. Bring us to a place of total surrender and then fill us with more of YOUR SPIRIT than we can hold. Make us all that YOU created us to be. JESUS, I LOVE YOU! I want to love YOU more. IN YOUR MATCHLESS HOLY NAME I pray this prayer. AMEN!
