Subject: Inmates of TS CORNWALL West Thurrock

Hi there
I have recently discovered that a ancestor of mine namely Christian SCHILLER was aboard the TS Cornwall during the 1881 census.
Could anyone advice me as to where I may find records about his time on board. As I have been unable to find him in any UK censuses since the 1881 and wondered if he may of joined the Merchant Navy after his "sentance" was over.
Any advice or info would be really appreciated as i have never yet researched anybody that may have had a seafaring life.
