 They WERE NOT hacking to damage the site, rather they were attempting to steal server space?

I'd be interested to see who was behind this and what the major motive was (OK, like we ALL wouldn't love to know who did this, just for general principle) but I have a hard time believing it was a benign "Theft" of server space.......OK I'll loosen the tinfoil hat a bit now.
