Subject: The Beat and The Police concert

Amigos-I noticed where you mentioned that The Beat played with The Police. This always confused me, I never got to see The Beat live, but I did go to a show. This was many years ago and the tickets were sold for The Police, opening band The Beat. I bought the tickets and waited for the day the concert was to happen. Now I thought everything was fine until I actually went to the show. That was the funny part.

The band who opened for The Police was called The Beat, yes they were a punk band, but they were from the U.S. The music was good but I thought I was getting The Beat from the UK, who played Mirror In The Bathroom and Twist and Crawl. Nowadays, to avoid confusion, they call the other Beat Paul Collins Beat and our band The Beat is called The New Beat with appearances as Special Beat. (The Specials & The Beat of course)

The Paul Collins Beat website is http://www.paulcollinsbeat.com while The Beat's site is http://www.twistandcrawl.com. The difference between both bands of The Beat is that one played new wave ska with a 60s flavor and the other played new wave pop/rock with a 60s flavor.

It would be weird if they played shows together, both bands as The Beat. Now I wonder if The Beat (our ska band) ever played with The Police. The Police had those cool reggae taps in their songs and reminded me of The Beat. I think that would be a good combo. Your friend, Calvin
