Hornblower was faster than the monster thought possible, years at sea giving him an agility that did not seem possible in his condition of one wooden leg and and one eye. He dodges the drakin's attack and slashes at its throat, downing that one as easily as the first.
As the fight went on, the storm raging around the ship quickly increased in intensity. Huge raindrops pelted onto the deck, the wind whipping everything around, the waves tossing the ship like a toy boat. A lightning bolt rent the sky and crashed into the mast, destroying the Drakins perched there. Before the mast crashed to the deck, Orin disappeared in a blue light; thankfully for him they had just at that moment passed out of the negative energy zone.
Almost too quickly, a large mass of land came into sight and the ship violently lurched up and wedged itself between a pair of rocks far up the shoreline. With a jarring lurch, the ship stands still, a gaping hole in the hull and the mast laying broken across the deck. Almost as quickly, the storm abated and the sun started peeking out between the heavy black clouds.
MEANWHILE, IN THE OCEAN:
A little ways away from the ship, a figure watched as Rhamberdie got tossed off the ship. She swum over and held him above the waves. "Don't worry," she yelled over the crashing waves, "I'll get you to safety." Her hair was red and seemed to stay perfectly in place even though the storm raged around them, and her eyes were the brightest blue. She swam after the ship, and reached the shore, depositing Rhamberdie on the beach. She sat there, flipping her shining green fish tail in the air, watching him, to make sure he was ok.
