General, General, Cant you see,
What it is you do to me?
What you are doing is not right,
You have not taught me how to fight.
That hat you've handed me to wear,
Its an honor that cant be shared.
All our men are just not ready,
This new kind of army is so unsteady.
This is one thing of which I am sure,
We will not be ready to go to war.
Have you thought of what it'll cost?
How about all the lives that will be lost?
Forget the training, Theres no need for that,
All because you've given me this hat.
You cannot make me like a RANGER,
I am not prepared for the danger.
What they have comes from inside,
Otherwise, They'd never have survived.
You cannot take away their pride,
Its not something you can buy.
You just cannot give it to me,
Honor and courage is the key.
This just does NOT belong to me.
You've taken an honor and made it cheap,
The beret is something they should keep.
It is what must be earned,
That kind of pride cant be learned.
These men are aside from all the rest,
That is why they are called the best.
Spare yourself the ridicule,
Send us new guys to Ranger School.
If and when we make the grade,
Then we can wear their black beret!
