Hi guys...
Well... It is with great sadmess that I have to tell you that there will be no class per se today BUT...
Those of you who met w/ Brumi for the e-portfolio can extend their tutoring beyond 9am (or util I arrive, yes, I will arriving at some point).
Please alse meet with your corresponding working group to keep planning your teaching unit for the level you were assigned. I DO WANT A WRITTEN REPORT of your progress. ok? This demostrative class will include the things we had learned in claas and it should take about 2 days toward the end of the class (about 10 students per day or 3 gruups). This will include everything, handouts for students (we will be the students), plan a team teaching if you will, or could be only one from the group doing the class.
If anyone brings their Bulletin boards, please wait until I am there to have the evaluation. If anybody does, please someone call me at my cell phone ASAP. ok?
Continue the sharing of teaching strategies that we started last week. Write a ONE page telling me at least one strategy that you will use and how with your students at the level you were assigned (8-12 and college).
And that is not all... brainstorm about why you become a teacher and eventually an ESL teacher. Then start writing about it until you narrow it to about 3-4 mins. speech. Memorize it!!!! Rehearse your speech w/ yuour family, colleages, etc. until you get it perfect or almost perfect with NO MULETILLAS (no crotches like you know, ah!, etc.) Then we will have either in class or any other time, time for you to do your speeach to us but you will be videotaped!!! Therefore, that day you should dress appropiately (no shorts Tom and Alex! :) and no sneakers, etc. You will start with something like Hello, My name is Ivan Calimano and I am a proud teacher of ESL at Plato's High School. I had been teaching English to 12 grade (or whatever)... and so on. When the time comes, I will tell you and you will then give your speech in front of the CAMARA... yes, you will be videotaped and later shared the full tape with the class. ok?
I think I gave you a handout on how to do a videorecording from the Instructional technology book. If not, let me know and will reproduce it for you. You can use this activity with your students too.
Well, now that is all for now. Hopefully a "fibrú" will read this before going to school and share it with the class. One reason I am not going to be there early is that I need to finish a presentation for a noon activity today and I fell yesterday and my right arm is hurting a bit (YES, I scratch my knees too and one of my big toes is hurting also). So, wait for me, that at any point in the morning, I will be there. Just tell Sanabria that you will be using the lab and that I am on the way. Use those machines for your emial assignment, for Brumi to help you (and Tom could help also).
