Subject: Help Keep Jenkinsburg

Last Monday a kid from Masontown drove an unlicenced, unregistered truck through the gate at the recently upgraded Jenkinsburg Takeout on the Cheat River. Thanks to some excellent police work by WVDNR officer (and paddler) Matt Schaefer the perpetrator has been caught. I helped the landowner, Dave Hough of Mountain Streams and Trails, chain the gate shut pending repairs. Later Jeff Macklin and a friend worked with me to block off a place where ATV's have broken through the barriers with barbed wire.

A small group of locals is not happy with our improvements, and we expect more trouble. You may see innapropriate behavior (Damage to the property, non-outfitter vehicles outside the upper parking lot, atrocious littering) during your visits.

DO NOT CONFRONT THE PERPETRATORS YOURSELF. If you can get pictures or license plate numbers without risk to yourself, do so. Then call 1-800-RAFT-NOW. Mountain Streams owner Dave Hough is working closely with DNR and County Sheriff's officers and he will follow up.
