Subject: Kayaking the Conemaugh

Hello all,

A few of us rather novice kayakers are looking at a weekend trip from Johnstown to Freeport. I was wondering if anybody here had some trip advice for us?

Particularly,

1. Where is a recommended put-in? Is the river runnable through Jounstown?

2. Portage around Conemaugh dam? Is it possible to hand carry up one side of the dam and down the other, or do we need transportation?

3. Camping around Conemaugh dam? This appears to be the halfway point.

4. Take out at Freeport?

5. General advice?

Thanks for any help.
