Have you got the right nickname or was there another Holt on 81Sqn in the mid fifties?
"Chico" Holt was an air wireless mech. originally working on the Sunderlands with the Radio Servicing Flight of ASF (Flying Boats), billeted in F Block (the last block before the swimming pool). He was transfered to 81 Sqn in March 1957 at the same time as I returned to the UK.
As I remember he also came from Croydon.

Hi mick,yes I remember "Chico" as well,but "Pancho" was an altogether different sort of bloke.He was part of Air Sea Rescue I think,but he spent most of his time rolling around in a small boat with I think an outboard,taking people out to the Sunderlands and "Sweeping" the water for take-off.Great cyclist always a winner and very dedicated keep fitter,that was when he hadn't decided to have a drink or two.Also does anyone remember a guy called "Wingnut".I wont go into too much detail until we establish he doesn't read this site.

If you know when these guys were on the MCU at Seletar and if they were there up until 1958, John Joyce will probably know of them, he has a website which is listed either on my Seletar or links page, pay him a visit, I'm sure he will point you in the right direction.

Wingnuts, I also knew one of those whether that was on 205/209 sqn or 201 Sqn at St Mawgan I can't recall.
I will get some of the other webfooters to try and help

I am Ron Holts(aka Chico) sister and you seem to know of Ron when he was at Seletar. Do you know why he was nicknamed chico, no one else seems to and I am busting to find out.

Yes there were two Holt's,I am in contact with chico,through the new 81 Squadron Assoc,but would still like to meet up with Pancho,who was indeed a great cyclist and definitely was air sea rescue,for some reason I was billeted with 205/209 initially before being moved into H block with the rest of 81 sq.But still remeber fondly the weeks or was it months before I was re assigned.

My Dad was on 205/209 ( I feel sure) 1953-1959.5. In supplies I think. (510441 W/O Finlay F.J). We lived in Baker St - No. 3 (again I think). I spent most of my time outside school either at the pool or on the golf course.
Would like to hearfrom anyone who knew either me or my dad.
Played a lot of golf with Alan Galloway NS Telephonist - ex Assistant golf pro from the Wirrel, also organist at Liverpool cathedral.
Anyone know of Alans whereabouts?

My brother Ron Holt was staioned at Seletar 1955-1958 and yes he was nicknamed Chico, but does anybody know why? It was not because he was small because all young Malayan boys were called chico, there is another reason.

I fondly remember being a member of the West camp select playing for the Bone of Contension againt East Camp under lights (soccer ) and the great booze up back at West Camp after we had (stuffed them)

I too, remember playing in the soccer match and the following booze up at West Camp NAAFI, a night to remember!
I was 'goalie' in the JAPIC team and still have photos of the team and the NAAFI booze up.

lived at seletar 1961-2, single man australian army, worked ck2 radio. anyone knew tom and dot cooper and son melvin from (?) 35 lambeth walk on base from that time would love to hear from them. also ran the two british boy scout cub packs on base at that time, love to hear from anybody who knew me from those years. now retired in australia, can find me on facebook.

Lived in west camp in 1963 to 1965 worked in supply wing then 5001 sdn played football 5001 and tech wing .Was a supplier too trade .Hope to hear from any one how now's me

I was at West Camp 1955-57 on Base Flight, operating (mainly) Beaufighters and Meteor 8's for target towing. I too remember playing football under lights. Iwas billeted in H Block. Does anyone remember old Dollar the bearer who cleaned all the shoes and looked after the dhobi etc? I
would love to hear from anyone of that era.

Spent 16 months doing National Service with 205/209 flying boats from mid 1956 to late 57. I did gthe unforgivable thing of answering the Wing Commander Flt, Lt. Warhaftig's question, 'can anyone do signwriting?' I could and volunteered and became his office boy instead of working out in the Seletar heat. Menber of the Guard of Honour and the Seletar Theatre Club.

I served on 81 Sqdn 57-59.Knew Chico Holt very well.
We both plyed football for 81,he was captain i plyed in goal.
I was known as Chic 123 as my last 3 was 123 and answering to 123 Smith took ahelol of lotv of convincing to thoswe upper ranks.Times i had to produce my 1250 to prove i was'nt taking the mickey.
Wonderful days then Rivalry between Sqdns was great,as was the booze up afterwards
