Subject: Vickers Valetta Crash Lyneham 1951

12th July 1951 Vickers Valetta VW194 crashed in the circuit at RAF Lyneham, narrowly missing the Married Quarters. My father was i/c ASF at the time as a Flight Sergeant, the Valetta crashed about 400 yards from where we lived, all 10 crew and passengers on board died.

I understand that there was at least one WRAF member on board and as far as I can remember (as a kid of 12) that the Valetta had developed engine trouble shortly after take off, the pilot called an emergency and turned back to base but instead of feathering the prop to the faulty engine he feathered the wromg prop.

If you know anything about this incident please let me know
