Re TG508 at TI, everyone survived this crash and subsequent fire, I am in touch with the Flight Engineer who was on board, there is a photo at http://community.webshots.com/user/hastingsgan
you will need to copy and paste this URL to get it to work there are two photos of this aircraft on fire on the second album marked Handley Page Hastings.
The Coroners Office in Chichester should have the details of how/why E T Hollins died, failing that the RAF Record Office at Innsworth, Glos will have the details but they only give details to the nearest next of kin.
We have had great success in finding out this sort of info and I'm sure you will find your answer here. Read the item SUCCESS! below posted a coup;e of weeks ago

I never knew E T Hollins but if he was alive today he would be my brother-in-law. I am wondering if this is close enough for me to make an enquiry at the RAF records office?
I understand that Emsworth figured in the crash and he could be buried there. I am going to obtain his death certificate as this might give more details of his death. I believe that his cause of death was drowning. Although he was a serving officer he was on leave at the time of the crash having "hitched" a lift from Alderhay.

If you contact the Air Historical Branch AHB, RAF Bentley Priory, Middlesex, they will have details of the accident/incident as they obliged to retain records of deaths. If there is information required on a servicemans record then RAF Innsworth hold this info, you may have to pay the statutory £25 and send some proof of who you are and it might be advisable to use your wifes maiden name to ease progress! See also the SUCCESS story printed below from a couple of weeks ago, I wish you luck and please let us know the success you may have.

I have now obtained the death certificate which has given me some further information.
Flight Lieut Edward Thomas HOLLINS age 29 died May 17 1962 (later than I first thought).
He was stationed at RAF Thorney Island.
Cause of Death:
Drowning, when an RAF aircraft in which dec'd was Navigator crashed in the sea, there being no evidence why the crash occurred (an open verdict).
Inquest held 8.6.1962
This now gives the information that I need for my family tree. It would be nice to know what aircraft was involved.

170562 XL132 Blackburn Beverley crashed in Chichester Harbour with the loss of two lives, I will see if I can find some more gen.
