Thank you for that reply John, Sadly to say I am on incapacity benefit from heart and lung problems, have no savings , a family, and cannot afford to pay them.

Anyone reading this please DO NOT under any circumstances pay anything to help me out, I do have my pride if nothing else.

I am sorry if this is seemingly rude or harsh it is not meant to be , but I hope you understand, I just desperately want to know about my dad from anyone who knew him , but not at the expense of others.

I DO appreciate any other help though.

I can tell you that my step father is Mick Stockhouse and was an L.A.C too , he served at Leconfield , cyprus and Odiham (amongst others), he knew my dad too, I think he was in 92 sdn , and was definately on lightnings, then went to odiham somehow on wessex or pumas, he has lots of puma pics so i guess it may be either 33/72 sdn ?. my problem is not knowing where in cyprus or the sdn dad (owen) was in. This may be a clue , as I am not sure if the R.A.F changed sdn personel about that much and if they both worked together it may have been in the same sqdn.

Our father died 17th September 1992, in Liverpool of Myocardial Infarction. I didn't find out until Sept 1996.

My genealogical research has yielded the following information.

After discharge from the Royal Air Force, he served briefly as a prison officer, but left the service after a brief service. He then served in the UAE and was expelled for violating the alcholol laws, and then Yemen and was expelled for violating the strict Islamic morality laws. He worked as a contract engineer for those nations air forces.

Returning to the UK after ~ 12 years away, he re-trained as a male Nurse, eventually becoming a Charge Nurse (male equivalent of sister). He worked in this capacity until his death.

I am told he was cremated and his ashes spread.

Genealogy

As is standard practice in any historical research, I've followed-up on every crazy story I've been told, looking for the nugget's of real information that might spawned them (town names to look for further parish records and so on). I've looked for any/all documents that might help verify correctness of a birth/death/marriage/census record from the BMD indexes (leases, wills, criminal records, military service records ... anything and everything ...), since witness' names, names of co-signers, partners, addresses, solicitor's names, or any other seemingly irrelevant data, can often validate or disprove avenues suspected relationship lines in the Indexes. It's pretty thankless work, but if you have an interest in history or genealogy, it can be interesting for it's own sake. Sometimes the most interesting part is debunking some wildly fantastic tale you get told, although sometimes disproving something like that can make the odd family member annoyed that you've made their favorite family story sound silly.

That said, I can provide some general background on the family, although I don't know much in detail. I don't have the financial resources to provide you with actual certificates and other documentation I have gathered, but if you have any interest in the genealogy I can probably provide you with a CD/electronic copy of whatever document copies and scans of pictures I have managed to accumulate.

There isn't much to tell though. The family has lived in Liverpool since at least 1838; the earliest family member I can trace is an Owen Williams who's census records say he was born in the county of Lancashire, I calculate from that census that he was born in ~1811, his father's name was Lewis Williams and was a Draper (curtains etc).

Which means I still cannot say for sure where in Wales they are from, and I still can't disprove the story that they came from Amlwch in Anglesea. The only connection to Amlwch I can find is James Aubrey Williams, who served as apprentice tailor there in 1881.

The Aubrey name seems to originate in Lewis' generation, and all of the male children bore it as a middle-name. Copies of birth certificates I have seen show that the story it was a hyphenated last-name is untrue. So the reason for the obsession with the Aubrey name remain a mystery, although I have now proven what I knew, that it had nothing to do with the Aubrey's of Llantythrydd.

What a predicament you guys are in, sorry to hear of your plight, this is typical of the PC brigade we live in today. I just wish you luck with your research, I suppose you have tried the Royal British Legion and the RAFA, they have a good appeals system with old comrades

I can clarify the question regarding service records.

Because our father re-married, the RAF will not provide his service record to us as sons of his first marriage, especially since legally we were adopted by our step-father, which strips us of any right of kinship.

His widow may make that request, or we must get her written permission to do so. If she is dead, then our half-brother becomes his legal senior heir in all matters, including that of the service records, and he would have to give us written permission. I think it's very wrong personally, but the law is unequivocal, and our adoption presents us with a lot of obstacles where our father is concerned.

The only other useful thing I heard from a former neighbor when I was looking for our father ten years ago, was that our step-mother had been interested in moving to Spain. But I was never able to prove/disprove it.
