I can clarify the question regarding service records.

Because our father re-married, the RAF will not provide his service record to us as sons of his first marriage, especially since legally we were adopted by our step-father, which strips us of any right of kinship.

His widow may make that request, or we must get her written permission to do so. If she is dead, then our half-brother becomes his legal senior heir in all matters, including that of the service records, and he would have to give us written permission. I think it's very wrong personally, but the law is unequivocal, and our adoption presents us with a lot of obstacles where our father is concerned.

The only other useful thing I heard from a former neighbor when I was looking for our father ten years ago, was that our step-mother had been interested in moving to Spain. But I was never able to prove/disprove it.
