Mr Richards is living in Carterton Oxon.Should anybody
with interests to this tragic accident wish to contact him

My father, Sgt Walter James Owen was killed in this air crash. I was only 7 months old at the time and am now 55. I would appreciate it if I could be kept up to date on any further information anyone has.
Many thanks and God bless Mr Richards for his bravery.

My father lost his brother in this accident. He has still got newspaper cuttings which I will scan and post on the internet. This will be in a few weeks as I won't be able to get back to see him for a few weeks.

There was a memorial service in 2012, but we didn't hear about in at the time.

Pearl, more information can be seen on this site:

http://rafforum.activeboard.com/t6756996/5th-march-1957-beverley-crash-at-sutton-wick/?page=12

You will need to register on the site to view it.

My brother, Nigel, arranged for the memorial to be sited at the Newark Air Museum and can be contacted through the link above. Several family members of the victims of this accident visited Newark earlier this year to view the area of the memorial.

Some details of the accident are on the forum and people are always willing to help with any other info.

Best regards,

Laurie

Dear All,

Following on from Nigel Beans memorials at the Newark Air Museum I am hoping to add to the memorials to the Sutton Wick tradgedy.

I have a display case which will hopefully be fitted this year to the last remaining Blackburn Beverley at Fort Paull Musuem near Hull in East Yorks.

Whilst researching this I have tried to contact local Newspapers etc for help and other groups, but to no avail so far. What I am trying to do now in addition to the Beverley Aircraft memorial is to find the exact spot the plane came down.

I feel its the Sutton Wick Lane area as there is mention of part of the aircraft ending up in a pond. There is a lovely little village pond on Sutton Wick Lane, there is a grid reference on Wikipedia which shows the crash to the West of the village and I am trying to confirm the exact site so that I can plant a few snowdrops there, possibly with a few cornflowers to represent the air crew and poppies to represent the civilians killed on the ground. The idea being there would always be a Red, White and Blue presence at the site.

Once I can secure a little funding I would like to get a plaque at the site as well if there isn't one there, I have read various posts elsewhere saying that the local RAFA was looking into doing something, but on a quick inspection the other weekend I couldn't find anything.

Any help anyone can provide as to the location or any maps, details, photographs that I can use for the dispaly at Fort Paull would be most welcome.

Thank you for any help you can offer.

Regards

Iain

I have past on your letter to a guy I work with John, who will get in touch with you , his family owned the land where the plane came down- he remembers it well. The Abingdon Herald had a double page spread on the anniversary a couple of years back, which showed the field and area.
My husbands uncle John Travers was reading the meter in the house at the time and was tragically killed at the age of 21- he had covered work for someone else that day.

This Saturday will see the replacement of last years temporary memorial with a specially carved replacement listing the names of all those lost. It has been created by a local resident and an ex member of the Royal Air Force.

The event will be in Sutton Wick Lane, near the Duck Pond, in Drayton village to the south of Abingdon, Oxon.

It will start at 1045hrs and last until around 1115hrs.

Please contact the Memorial Mob for more details, regards.

Iain

My brother William Henry Gorst was a dog handler who was on this flight..I would appreciate being in contact with any other relatives of the casualties..or anyone who was in the RAF unit concerned..There was a friend of my brother, who was called Barry..I don't remember his surname..but he attended my brothers funeral in Heysham Lancashire.. I wonder if he is in contact with your group..Unfortunately myself and my family were unable to attend the recent memorial service, but my thoughts were with you.It means a lot to know they are not forgotten.
