Dear All,

Following on from Nigel Beans memorials at the Newark Air Museum I am hoping to add to the memorials to the Sutton Wick tradgedy.

I have a display case which will hopefully be fitted this year to the last remaining Blackburn Beverley at Fort Paull Musuem near Hull in East Yorks.

Whilst researching this I have tried to contact local Newspapers etc for help and other groups, but to no avail so far. What I am trying to do now in addition to the Beverley Aircraft memorial is to find the exact spot the plane came down.

I feel its the Sutton Wick Lane area as there is mention of part of the aircraft ending up in a pond. There is a lovely little village pond on Sutton Wick Lane, there is a grid reference on Wikipedia which shows the crash to the West of the village and I am trying to confirm the exact site so that I can plant a few snowdrops there, possibly with a few cornflowers to represent the air crew and poppies to represent the civilians killed on the ground. The idea being there would always be a Red, White and Blue presence at the site.

Once I can secure a little funding I would like to get a plaque at the site as well if there isn't one there, I have read various posts elsewhere saying that the local RAFA was looking into doing something, but on a quick inspection the other weekend I couldn't find anything.

Any help anyone can provide as to the location or any maps, details, photographs that I can use for the dispaly at Fort Paull would be most welcome.

Thank you for any help you can offer.

Regards

Iain

I have past on your letter to a guy I work with John, who will get in touch with you , his family owned the land where the plane came down- he remembers it well. The Abingdon Herald had a double page spread on the anniversary a couple of years back, which showed the field and area.
My husbands uncle John Travers was reading the meter in the house at the time and was tragically killed at the age of 21- he had covered work for someone else that day.
