Just read this thread and the last message was posted before the capture of Saddam but Fiona P's posting was the only one that was even close to the truth. Liberty is about self reliance. Al Frankin is a failed standup comedian who is trying now to write books that are funny and thought provoking. Unfortunately, he isn't any better at political writing or comentary then he was at comedy. Right or wrong he certainly has the write to print or speak his words, whatever they may be as this is a freedom of speech country. Whether you are a liberal or conservative, there is only one goal we both have and that is to keep this country free. Free from trouble, crime, and tyranny. This is a capitalistic society where you have the opportunity to earn what you want and do what you want as long as you don't infringe on others in a harmful way. By harmful I mean hurting them physically. Words will never hurt anyone nor will the printed word. We have the right to ignore or not read or even not to listen. Heck, when we break most laws, we only pay a monetary fine. In In the middle east, if you break their laws you get tortured or even killed..
Who is responsible for the middle east problem and terrorism? It's no ones fault here in the USA. It is a problem that is common to the middle east. Rulers and kings and dictators have always been the way of that part of the world. Technology has made all of this more pronounced. Once the Russian walls fell and we became the only super power, everybody started to aim at us. If 9/11 didn't happen, I doubt we would have ever went into the middle east to fight. They decided to bring the terror to our front yards and kill 3000 people on our soil and now we are fighting back and I will tell you this, if they manage something on that scale again, the response will probably be such that shock and awe will be remembered as a ripple in the pond. The terrorists won't win, regardless of who's in the white house. This country is too strong and too well talented to fall. Remember, this country was built on the outcasts and rejects from England. It has always been a melting pot of the best and the worst from all over the world. But, we have the very best here within our borders and I as one am very proud of that.
I will support Al Frankin to say or write anything he wants because that is his right, but I don't have to read it, nor do I have to like him. I am sure he is just as much an American as the rest of us and he wants to be free and able to write what he wants and to pursue his dreams. I can at least applaud him for that. This forum is the result of the freedoms that we enjoy.
