"Counting on Democracy" DVD Exposes Violations in Florida Vote
Investigative Election 2000/2004 DVD - A "must see" documentary before you vote in Election 2004 - Information is essential.

NEW YORK, NY (PRWEB) October 19, 2004 -- With early voting and only a couple weeks to go before the election, and as a contribution to the need for vigilance on voting rights, Globalvision is re-releasing its award-winning “COUNTING ON DEMOCRACY” documentary on DVD with updates that include warnings about voting rights violations exposed in Florida during the 2000 election and how they could happen again - go to: http://www.globalvision.org/program/fla/fla.html

Updates feature interviews from the 2004 Republican and Democratic conventions with appearances by filmmaker Michael Moore, BBC investigative journalist Greg Palast (whose confrontation with Florida State officials appeared in the original program,) and members of the Florida Congressional delegation.

Moore, whose controversial movie “Fahrenheit 911” is included in the 2004 update of “Counting on Democracy” with a scene discussing the issue about Black representatives and how they are not allowed to denounce voting rights violations in Congress. Moore announces to Florida delegates that he plans to be in the Sunshine State with his cameras on Election Day to insure that the 2004 election will not be stolen again.

Palast says the “black out list on black voters,” a purge list of allegedly convicted felons is still being used to discriminate against black voters. He lashed out at the U.S. press for not covering the story.

Congresswoman Corrine Brown said there are double standards in election procedures with the U.S. government criticizing other countries for electoral abuses still in effect in Florida. She was censured by the Congress for calling the 2000 election a coup-d’etat and said that Al Gore won the popular vote in Florida as well as in other parts of the country.

“We are re-releasing COUNTING ON DEMOCRACY because the lessons it raises about risks to the rights of all Americans to vote and have their votes counted are more timely than ever,” says investigative producer Danny Schechter.

The DVD is available for $16.95 - from Globalvision.org. Go to: http://www.globalvision.org/program/fla/fla.html

Television stations can contact Danny Schechter if there is any interest in airing the documentary before the election.

Directed by Danny Schechter, Counting on Democracy is narrated by Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee. The film, produced with ITVS support was co-produced and written by Faye Anderson. The 2004 update is a “Danny Schechter dissection.” Schechter’s latest project is WMD (Weapons of Mass Deception) a feature length documentary on the media coverage of the war in Iraq. See www.wmdthefilm.com Running Time: l hour-15 minutes. WMD just won the award at the Austin, TX film festival and has a distributor slated to release the film in theatres prior to election day.
