Barry:
I'm told I have a bit of a gift for words, but, truth be told, I'm struggling to come up with the ones to lay out in this post.
I looked at the active posts on the board, dating back to June of this year, and I see 5 from you directed by name to Smokin Jim. Then I see you say that the CBSA is quiet and there's not much use in belonging anymore... Do you think there might be a connection in there somewhere?
Perhaps if there was more input and interaction between more members and questions/comments geared toward the entire membership and not just one member, the community as a whole would feel more involved in this thing.
This is not meant as a shot against you Barry; hell, at least out of the 50, 60, 75 members, whatever it is we have, you are here often and you do post. That is much more than many members have EVER done, even some supposedly 'high-profile' members. Our records show that only 2 members are without internet access. However, scan the message board and see the same names that come up again and again.....
There has to be a point when more CBSA members become ACTIVE members for this thing to work. The Canadian bbq community is just too small and too spread out for one or two people to carry the association.
* Is the current membership card/certificate situation screwed up? Yep.
* Has this forum been quiet since Summerfest? Yep.
* Has the Tuesday Night Chat dried up since summer? Yep.
* Is the CBSA withering up and dying? Well, THAT question is up to you, and by the word 'you' I mean each and every member!
There's a lot more I could write here, but this is far enough for now.....Bottom line, the executive of the CBSA is aware of concerns and issues that need to be addressed for this thing to take off and we often feel as frustrated as the general membership. Some board members have been so frustrated in fact as to quit their post, so those of us that are sticking it out know that the pressure's on to get this ship rolling straight and with greater direction and sense of purpose.
The concerns of the membership need to be heard and need to be addressed. We have an email address, cbsa@canbbq.com where you can set out issues you want to see looked at and settled. We have a board meeting coming up soon. Try to remember that the board members are all unpaid and are just trying to spread their enthusiasm about barbecue to other Canadians. Speaking personally, it actually hurts to see the 'What's wrong with the CBSA?' posts that have become frequent as of late; I want this thing to fly as much or more than anybody else involved.
If you just want to speak to Smokin Jim, well, he does have a private email (jkbeauc@mb.sympatico.ca), but I'm sure we'd all love to hear about those cooks you've been doing, woods you've been trying out and just what's cooking in general. We're trying to bring more and more people to this meeting place so there's more to read, to learn and to share, but it's a long road, Barry. We hope you'll keep travelin' it with us for a while longer....yes, the scenery does get a little boring and stale sometimes, but every passenger is important at this stage, and we gotta remember to take turns driving sometimes too!
If you've got this far, thanks for reading and have a great weekend, what's left of 'er......
Qfan
