Mornin' Reg. You know, I think I will try the sand thing too. Ribs would be the big test, I don't baste at all but if need be, one could spray occasionally in the last half of the cook to preserve moisture. I wouldn't worry with butts, plenty moisture in a mass that size. Have a good one!
