On the night I smoked it, I turned right around and grilled 4-5 pieces for Hannah and I, so I didn't have any 'smoke only' slices. Invited dad over for lunch today and he had the remainder, pan-fried. He eats quite a bit of fried baloney and he said 'This is not basic fried baloney!', so the smoking must have done the trick. It was just cheap No Frills no-name stuff, so I'd conclude that smoking does add to the flavour quite a bit, but no, I didn't try smoke only. Next time! ;)
