I too was told that the 'sped' department wouldn't touch the dyslexia but would address the written language disorder my DS had also been diagosed w/. I got the IDEA law (all 400+ pages) and found where it directly addresses dyslexia. By law they CANNOT disregard his dyslexia (if it has been officially diagosed as that) regardless of your state, it is a federal law. It was 10 yrs ago that my DS was diagnosed and he is now in college (needing more testing, that's why I'm here). I don't know your state but if you are in Oregon take him to OHSU's child development center. Very thourough (sp?) very professional and 2 least w/ us, our med insurance paid for the majority of the testing. Good luck..(please pardon my spelling, if needed,my DS got dyslexia from somewhere).........T
