For everyone who has trouble with reading and spelling - you're right! It isn't everything! I have a friend with degrees in nursing and psychology - many years ago in college I asked to borrow her notes for an anatomy class I had missed. They were impossible to read, I mean really impossible, because of her spelling. I couldn't use them. This was in the early 70s - no accommodations then, but she managed to get two B.S. degrees at a very slow and steady pace, with her teachers understanding her dyslexia and helping her along. She has enjoyed a long career in psychiatric nursing and is ready to retire happily. My son is dyslexic and has a lot of trouble in many academic areas, yet he can build and trouble shoot a computer better than the professionals. He's a senior in a private high school and as he is becoming nervous about college, I have to remind him often about my college friend. Hope this is encouragement for you as well as for all the teachers who post here. Spelling and even reading are not essential skills for cognition, especially in this age of assistive technology, which most colleges now utilize. (Did I spell that right?)
