there are many reasons for dyslexia and some children have mixed causes. so there are many recommendations, you need to find a solution that addresses your child's specific issue.

some children have more than one 'issue', you really need professional help in that case.

i publish some training materials (that i did not develop) which work amazingly well for kids with auditory decoding issues. the web version is FREE at http://www.decode-abc.com. there is a self-assessment on the site.

the site offers remediation - it is intended for older kids (7+) who have FAILED to learn to read fluently. i am training an adult learner (38) named Josette, she allows me to blog about our progress - check it out on the home page.

the great thing about this specific cause of dyslexia is that it can often be FIXED. completely. lack of fluent auditory decoding skills can usually be corrected with intensive systematic training (the underlying issue, if any, that might have caused the deficit will remain).

often, decoding deficits are related to CAPD. but children who simply had chronic ear infections when young can also fail to learn to decode 'automatically'. they don't hear well at the point when other children learn decoding, but the brain adapts and they learn to read using memorized words. but that isn't 'real reading', and it's a terrible trap.

you say your child has ADHD. that is a medical condition that is often treated with drugs. but the symptoms of ADHD and CAPD are very similar, and ADHD is often mis-diagnosed.

it won't take much time to check out the DECODE site with your child. if it's not a decoding issue, keep looking.
