Keep an eye on www.gabbyswordspeller.com and hopefully, about the time you start school, we will have the phonetic dictionary as a new spell checker on iPad and iPhone and hopefully Mac. You will be able to spell a word any way you want and you will find the right word lickety split...just like the spell checkers now but this one will be able to find your word by the way you spell, no matter how crazy!
And...I visit the community colleges all over the country and they have special money set aside for anyone with learning disabilities or challenges. So go ask for you own private tutor, you are also able to take your time (or at least have alot more time) to take tests. As well, ask them to buy you this phonetic dictionary, it is designed for dyslexics by dyslexics.
And...I was once a literacy tutor at three different community colleges in three states and I would say over 20% of the students had dyslexia. You will not be alone. Be certain to go to special services and take advantage of all you can possibly get them to help you with. Just ask for anything you think you need.
The government has been generous to special education this year and that will continue...best funding is going to them so take advantage of it. Christ knows many of you have been left in the cold and it's your time to make it happen for you. The school's job is to help you however they can. If they don't, go to the college next door, it will do a better job!
P.S. My daughter is 25, has dyslexia and is too afraid to go to college. Hopefully she will get over her fear because college is NOTHING like the lower level school! You will love it, I promise!
