Hi there. I just read a brief 'story' at additudemag.com (an ADD site) about a study by Frank Wood (at a med univ in NC/USA)about the success of recitation of poetry (along with following along in print) in helping students with dyslexia. Can't elaborate, but education for dyslexia ought to be 'multisensory' anyway and this would include sound. Obviously, this concept would have to be adapted for your son's situation/age (ie listening to well written literature via audio: books on tape/librivox.org has mp3 recordings for free!/etc...and maybe even trying to memorize sections (to 'lay down' the language patterns in his mind)...Good Luck.
