My son will be a Senior in High School this year. I asked for him to be tested during his middle school years, but did not get that accomplished. He enrolled himself inm debate in the 10th grade & stayed in it through his 11th grade. I finally was able to convince his Sr. High school to test him the summer after his 10th grade & he was "certified" & was able to get a special reading class during his 11th grade year. He had to take his 11th grade English over in summer school which he completed in 2 weeks with a "B" average...BECAUSE the teacher acknowledges his difficulty reading/dyslexia and allowed him to listen to the audio & read the book, and egave him verbal tests. He is planning to go to college next year. I am so sad that we discovered his dyselxia so late. However, the diagnostician & counselor has told me that he has learned to compensate so is able to think out of the box more than many persons. I know that his debate classes, 3 week camp & tournament has definitely helped him.
