Sorry Elizabeth but I tried ASL (American Sign Language) and it uses exactly the same part of the brain that other foreign languages use. Mike, I feel your pain. I am in exactly the same boat. My college has offered me equivalent classes like non-verbal communication and cross-cultural psychology to replace language classes if I get a dyslexia diagnosis. The problem is that the testing is about $1600 to $1800 and I can't afford that. My HMO won't cover it because "LD's are not mental health issues". Maybe your college will accept some other classes that can substitute to the language ones.
