My son has dyslexia and I utilized some visualization with him that was hugely successful in his vocabulary. I asked him to write the word in the air (above his nose level) and spell the word backwards. Then, ask him to spell the word forwards. The word was easily recalled even weeks afterward. Evidently they have to visualize the word and hold the image long enough to realize what it looks like. Start with three or four letter words and work into longer words. This builds confidence and takes time. This visualization does not bring with it the phoneme graphime connection. I think it is more like "whole word" method of learning to read. Consequently, my son needed ongoing discussion on the various meanings and neuances of the words. When the student writes the word, they need to make it clear and not just scribble. I did some interogation work with a corrections dept. and we would look at the position of the eyes. If we could get info out, I wondered if one could put info in. This isn't a substitute for the english mechanics, I found those techniques supported by the Orton-Gilliham method. Look for this method and not a hybrid program.
