Hi I agree not enough is reported about the positive aspects- when I talk to people about dyslexia the main positive things I here are that eistine Jackie Stewart and Richard Branson were all dyslexic and very successful. However when I went to unviersity at least 2 of my lecturers in biomedical sciences were dyslexic.

I do feel that in school there was a a lot of focus on trying to correct the problem which dose lead to low self esteam as dyslexia can become part of peoples Identity. It is thus very important that the postive aspects are publisid as you probalby know as psychology student.

I am now doing a second degree in medicine which I was origninally told I would not be able to do with dyslexia I hope that research like your own can help to dispell some of the stigma and fear of the condition. I have recently been studying epilepsy and read about similar ideas among the public for what is a much more serious medical condition.

In medicine it is important to be able to integrate all the aspects of the patients life form the biological difficulteis difficulties withe drugs and why these may be affected by psycosocial components (probably brings back memories of long health psychology lectures) . I find that I find it very easy to integrate things and this is very helpfull when talking to patients about their conditions as well as the understanding my experinces of having a disability help me to understand patients problems and how we can not try to deal with one aspect at at time as they all interact.
At school integrateion of subjects was seen as a problem by some teachers whod only taught one of them but medicine and my scientiffic studies have shown me that having a mind that dose not always sectorise things in strict patterns as some suggest people without dyslexia do is an advantage.

I also have a very good longterm memory which is useful when I can't find phonenumbers in a list because of the appearance of moving figures I tend to learn numbers and such things quicker so I don't have to look them up as much as others which would take me much longer anyway.

I also seam to read in a more global way picking up the meaning instead of having to have the exact words sentence in front of me which makes sence, better than some other people at reading ( interpreting) bad hand writing and english which should sometimes be an advantage in medicine and has been in nursing and working with other people suffering form dyslexia.

Good luck with your reasearch!
