Personaly I tend to look up what is going to happen in the lecture beforhand so that I have some background knowlege and start my mind map with this and then go in and add bits I hear as I have no chance what so ever of following what is on the board and then ask questions if I don't understand or think I've missed anything at the end or e-mailed quireis if I discovered anything missing. I did have to fight last year though becasue I was ill and could not study for the extra time required. I have read tony Buzzans books on mind maping and speed reading which have helped me get a 2:1 and go to med school. I find if you have a good back ground and can work out what you have missed or ask questions in a complicated way you'er less likely to be told your being lazy! although sometimes if you've missed a fraction lectueres get frustrated with not haveing to re-explain the whole thing and accuse you of being underconfident.

It is hard but you will do it GOOD LUCK don't let them get you done straight reading is not always the best way to learn and everybody has a different best way to learn!!! Beleive me I have done far to many couses on learning strategie!
