Contact your state board of education. In Louisiana there are only three to four test that are accepted by the board. A licensed Psychologist should be able to give
you this test without much cost. This is what we did for my daughter. The public school system does not want people to be informed about dyslexia, that is because modifications have to be made for people with dyslexia. This cost schools money...for example if a child with dyslexia needs unlimited time to take test by law here in Lousisana the child gets unlimited time for testing. Schools can not discriminate against a disability. If a child needs an additional teacher to give special services and there is no teacher on staff to do such, one must be hired. If your are dyslexic you would most likely qualify for special grants for college. You must research on your on. Learning the hard way we found out public schools (can not) diagnose someone dyslexic, they can only do testing and find them learning disability. This is because the school has a catagory list of what they can say a child has tested. The schools receive special funding for stundents that fall under these catagories. I had to go above the school board and get the state involved sometimes an attorney may be needed, not always. I hope this gives you some answers. I am a parent that will not stop if my daughter doesn't receive services she is entitled to. My daughter had a good year last year, she maintained a 3.00 average however this year she is making very low scores. I have meet with teachers and principal three times this first six weeks, my meetings did not do much for my daughter as far as modifications. Sometimes attorneys are needed.
