Deidra, I am the program director of a respiratory therapy program and can understand your anxiety and frustration. I am sure most of those who ahve replied to your message have said how important it is to work with the college's counseling office to get specific assistance. I am sure one of your problems is taking an NBRC-type multiple choice test. Your instructors are correct in saying that you must pass the boards to become a therapist but there are techniques that will improve your test taking skills. Tell your instructor that you need an accomodation. Be prepared to have to prove this to the college. Once you've done that there are resources at every college that can help you. While the NBRC can give large-print tests, increase the time given for a certain portion of the registry exam, the format of questions and answers will remain the same.

While this sounds difficult, don't give up. If you want to truly want to become a therapist there are many ways to get the job done - but the work and level of committment is up to you.

Good luck
