Subject: Phonics Program Author: Jill Saunders [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] Date Posted: 06:08:49 01/30/06 Mon Phonics Programme We use a very good program for phonic which is called ‘THREP’ this stands for 'The Havering Reading Enrichment Programme'. The program develops the knowledge of 26 letters sounds of the alphabet and their combinations. The program uses high frequency words which are used in books and it allow the student to segment and blend sounds for encouraging spelling skills. Each sound is put in a grid and there are two pages for each sound used. The first page is words that only have the sound you are working with. The second page is mixed up words and sounds that they have learnt before, including the new sound that they have just learnt. The children are asked to say each sound in their head, and then say the word out loud. When you point to the word in the grid the child will break down or blend and read the word. In each stage there are around six packs of complex letters and combinations and there are three stages.
