I am dyslexic and worked in learning support with other children who had the same difficulty I found that a lot of them were getting poor comments form teaching staff. But I myself found this unsupprising as teachers often expect everyone to be able to to everything i.e if your bright you'll be able to read and write as well as understand. I had a problem with primary school reading at least if your could not read well you got given boring books to read without the intelletual challenge that you needed which puts off people who do have the interlect to understand what is going on. I think they should be given the complex books and given where the child will understand because of their interlect and give the time to get round their word problems because bigger words are not neccesarily the problem it was in my case more the physical act of reading and the fact that the letters moved. Surly reading is about how much you can learn and understand not about whether you read every word out loud exactly correctly in exact order - if you make these mistakes you are going to recongnise somthing is wrong and mentally correct it because of the context of what your are reading I always
read wrong words which made sence in context even if they were not exactly the words on the page!

Spelling causes problems because some words do not follow rules it is much more difficult to learn to spell a word like neccesary which has unfathamble rules than tolearn how to spell something like haemoglobin as each part means something !! heam-iron globin- protine formed in a round shape!

I think teachers should think about what they are doing and not assume everyone has the same difficulties and that all the same difficulties are assumed with each other. Surly frustration and the response of and bullying from teachersan important contributers to bad behaviour and demotivation of people with any difference in a classroom as well as those of their peers. I also have a heart condition and got similar responces in P.E.! On the other hand it must be difficult to see this in a class of 30-40 children I imaging its easy to dismiss people as having behavioural problems! instead of normal response to an inadequate teaching methode.
