Hi
Get him to read his sentences backwards so that he is looking at each individual word, rather than reading what he thinks he's written. Also you could make a checklist of his common errors (not too long - start with 4/5) and get HIM to go through the checklist looking for common errors in his work. The aim is (for both exercises) for him to become independent and not need reminding to do this or even check for common errors without the list.
