Oddly enough, the lava creature's advance went unnoticed as he turned his attention to the other's efforts, getting a feel for what was and wasn't working. It wasn't until the lava monster's shadow fell over him that he knew he was screwed. Or would have been, had Sarah not taken the blow for him.
With a yell, Ryu leapt to the side, aided in this action by a flight spell. In no time flat, he was at Sarah's side, looking over some rather nasty burns. At the same time he was aware of a rapidly growing force in him, a mix of sorrow, rage, and pure blind fury. It was becoming hard to focus. Terribly hard. He stood, one hand glowing a gentle green as he prepared Palliate, a very weak healing spell. It wouldn't do much for her aside from easing the pain, though.
And suddenly, that force in him made something inside his head snap. Like glass breaking, the healing spell in his hand shattered into small bits, which fell on Sarah's body, still giving her the benefit of the healing spell.
It's time I came out, Ryu said some voice, some very loud voice, inside his head. On the outside, Ryu's countenance had changed quite noticably, a very dark shadow covering his usual features. Slowly, he rose from the ground, the air within 2 feet of him brightening. Small 'specks' of light started to gather around him, hovering. Soon there were thousands of these little light specks floating around him. And all at once, they converged on him as a terrible scream tore loose from deep within him.
The daytime sky became further illuminated, as if a second sun had risen, when Ryu became enveloped in a solid column of light. Slowly now, the column dissapeared......
