Nerean Fol looked hard at the charts that lay before him. He was a wolf, of average height and build, with nothing totally unusuel about him except for three things.
One, he was a Vernix wolf, one of an elite band who had been born with a orange-ish, reddish tinge in in their fur, and an unusuelly bushy white tail. He resembled a fox more then a wolf in his colorings.
Two, Nerean Fol was a seaswolf. While it was commom in the far southern regain of the coast, never before had any Vernix ventured further then the outskirts of the place called Southsward. It was said that fierce warriors lived in the north, and none had wanted to be killed. Nerean Fol was different. At his command was five hundred vermin, all trained and skilled, armed to the teeth and cold-blooded when it came to slaying. The Vernix was certian that with them, he could easily go around Southsward by sea, and conqour the land further north.
The third and final thing that set Nerean Fol apart from the other Vernix's was that he was bringing his family with him. Yes, he was so condfadent in his abilaty to suceed that the Vernix was bringing along his beloved wife, the she-Vernix Aryle, and their little twins, the male Nerith and female Vasika. Unlike the other vermin that populated the land, Nerean Fol greatly valued and treasured his family, and hated it when they were seprated. The family felt likewise.
Now Nerean Fol was plotting a course for getting around Southsward. He muttered to himself in a rough voice as he traced his claw around a map, made seasons before by some unknown beast who had visited it. "Hm, lessee now, this 'ere stream will take us out over... Hmm, yah, then if we get onto this current... What's this?" He looked suprised. "A great stone fortress?" He read the faded print, slowly and carefully, squinting hard at it. "Redwall." He liked the sound of that. His eyes glittered wickedly as he repeated the name and mused. "Redwall... Methinks it would make a fine bearth for many a season, eh?"
Behind him, Aryle crept in, not wanting to desturb him. She touched his shoulder lightly and inquired in her light voice "Where?"
Nerean Fol smiled and let his claw rest as he replied. "Redwall."
Aryle repeated the name, her eyes glittering in anticapation.
"Redwall."
