On the blanket of soaring black grass
Lie white leaves shining like shattered glass
And amidst these broken pieces of
Platters and bowls and cups above is
One saucer unbroken, unshattered,
Shining more that all the others,
And like a brave warrior standing
The smiling saucer nods toward me,
But no one can see him smilling save
Oh little, oh little, little me.
For the shattered glass plates are the stars
And the one whole saucer the moon,
And even if I travel so far
That saucer'll be there very soon
As the only dearest friend to me
When all other friends tease little me.
