Subject: Working With The Horses

Never Say Never- I decided to ride Nevi today. We are going to work on the flat. I get his halter, lead and tack. I open his stall door and put his halter on. He seems very relaxed. I lead him out and clip him to the cross-tyes. I grab my brushes and hoof pick and groom him. I finish grooming him and get my saddle and square pad. I decide to also use a Bevel pad. I place the pads on his back and the saddle and he flinchs a bit but besides that doesn't care. I buckle the girth and do the girth up. I grab his bridle and unhook the croos ties. I bridle him and lead him into the indoor because its pretty cold out. I bring my stirrups down bring the girth up a few holes more and lead him up to mounting block. He stands nicely while I get on. We walk off and get on the rail. He seems very nicely collected. We walk about 2 laps around and I cue him into the trot he throws his head up and refuses to trot. I hope off and ask someone to hold him while I get my spurs. I put them on and get back on. I nudge him gently with the spurs and he goes off in a very nice trot. I ask him to collect and make a small 10 meter circle making sure I keep my leg to his side. He executes it beautifully. I sit the trot and give him a slight nidge of the spur and cluck and he begins a nice canter. He brings his nose in and I ask him to make a large circle. He does it nicely. I go down the diagonal of the arena and ask him to change direction. He does a nice flying lead change and continues to canter. After about 4 laps I slow him to a walk and let him walk out. He was great today. I cool him out, dismount and lead him into the barn I take my tack off and put a cooler on him and groom him and out him back in his stall.

Two Step Fly- Today I lunge Steppy. I grab the lunging surcingle, side reins, lunge whip and line. I Groom him lightly and put his lunging equipment on. I lead him into the lunging arena and let the lunge line out. I cluck to him and he automaticly begins to trot. I slow him up a bit. After a few laps I cluck to him and he begins a nice long strided canter. a few times he has little outbursts of bucks but settles. I lunge him for about 25 minutes and then I Slow him up and let him walk. Hes puffing a bit so I let him walk around for a while. I bring him into the barn and put a cooler on him. Hes pretty hot so I tie the cooler on him and put him on the hot walker. After about 5 minutes I get and bring him to the barn I groom the rest of the sweat off and put him back in his stall.

Sunday Sensation- Today I decided just to groom and turnout Sunday because he seems really really excited. I put his halter on him and lead him out. He bucks and tries to trot off. I halt him and put the chain over his nose. He tries to trot off and I pull back on the lead and he throws his head up annoyed.I open the gate and he tries to run and pull back hard on he stops and waits. I unclip the lead rope and he takes off bucking. I let him play for about 30 minutes because he was so excited when I bring him in hes exhausted. I groom him and put him back into the barn.

Down To Business- Downy seems a ton better today. I decide not to push it and I just hand walk him for about 5 minutes. I groom him lightly and put him back in his stall. I run my hand down his leg its much much better but its still a tiny bit swollen. I will probably give him a little bit more bute before I leave.

Fortuna Brillante- I decide to work on training Fortuna a little bit more today since hes still only 2. I put on a lunging cavesson and his tack on. I walk him around and then I lunge him he seems great. I grab his bridle and take the cavesson off and put the bridle on. I get on him and he seems great. this will be my 1st time riding him. I ask him to trot and he busts out in a wonderful long strided trot. He is really comfortable. I trot him in circles and such and then ask him to canter in both directions. He was great. I walk him around a bit and then trot him towards a small X. He goes right up there with no hesitiation and trots right over it A little big but still really good. I trot him over it 3 or 4 times and each time he does it great. I raise it to a 1'6 small vertical and he trots over it like a dream. I cue him to canter and he does it nicely I go over that with him 2 or 3 tims before decieded that was enough. He was really really good he could be the next great hunter he has wonderful form especially for a 2 y/o. I cool him out and then dismount. I bring him back into the barn take the tack off and he barely broke a sweat. When hes older he will be capable of big things. I put a cooler on him and groom him and put him back into his stall.

I feed all the horses their grain and hay and refill their water buckets. I make a bran mash for each of the horses because its so cold. I add some bute to Downy's. I check his leg again and it seems ok. It ill be much better tommarow. The horses were really good today
