My guess is that if you, N/A, would have been responsible for the defense of the USA after September 11th, 2001, you too would have listened to your many advisors and acted accordingly. Bush may have thought, too, that he was doing what God wanted of him, and he probably believed what his religious teachers and religious advisors, plus many others, told him at that time.
..... War is hell, and nobody should start a war, but countermeasures were, and still are, necessary in order to prevent even more problems, even many more hurt and dead people on all sides of the conflicts in which currently the USA is involved; the war in Afghanistan, in Iraq, the war on terrorists, the war on drugs, and the war on poverty.
