Subject: Are You Excited?

Hi to you both:

It is really going to get 'summery' weatherwise, here, this week. Temperatures for Wednesday to Friday are predicted to go up to 25 degrees! To go along with the summer weather, I am doing all my 'end of year' assessments. You know what that means? Another sure sign that summer is almost here. I am excited about that!

The only disheartening thing about the end of year assessments, is that not everyone has made fantastic progress, despite my (of course) totally awesome teaching. I am very pleased, however, with two children in particular. They've been experiencing lots of difficulties, not only academically, but also behaviorally. And both have made good improvements, including behaviorally. And the latter is great - they had quite unenviable reputations in the school. That makes me feel good, because I've been very committed to helping them change things for the better, for themselves.

Yesterday, Erin and I (and Liam) went 'browsing' to look at apartments. As their apartment lease is almost up, they would really like to find something else, that might be affordable for them, and give them a bit more room. The good thing is that they don't HAVE to find something by a certain date, so it is a less stressful way to be looking. We did find one very spacious upper floor in an older character type home. It had two big bedrooms, a divided bathroom (sink and toilet on one side), and a big kitchen with dining area. Erin really liked it. The drawback? No living room. Oh well. Close, but . . . .

We are going to go into the townhouse to begin doing some painting this weekend. One of the top priorities is the kitchen. The cabinets are painted an ugly dark brown, and the walls are bright scarlet. Couldn't look worse!

Brock has now done the worse job of the whole basement renovation. He has managed to work his way through a foot of concrete into the basement. We will have light! What a horrendous job, though. First, he (and his helper) had to dig a hole about five feet by four feet straight down. Then they had to use a heavy duty machines to blast through the wall. It will be all uphill, for him, from here. He hopes to get back, to frame in the window, on Thursday or Friday. Also, he has to make a concrete frame for the 'well' part.

Hope all is still going well for you, in Bundaberg. Dad found a really good site, with lots of pictures. It looks like there is a lot to do there. I don't have the site bookmarked up here on Nome's computer, but I remember the Botanical Gardens (have you spent time there?) and the historical house and property that gives you the history of sugar cane farming in the area. It looks quite interesting. Also, apparently Bundaberg is close to some really nice beachy looking area where the locals all go swimming? If you don't know what I'm talking about, I'll get you the correct names.

We were remembering that the two of you still have bonds that Grandma Penny and Grandpa Ted gave you a few years ago. Perhaps, they could be redemmed to help you with the Great Barrier Reef portion of the trip?

Loyd and Cathy leave this Friday for their trip to Italy! Lucky, lucky them. Loyd phoned me recently, and started talking to me in very fluent (sounded that way to me!) Italian. I didn't know it was him, and told him he had the wrong number. It is Erik's birthday today. Happy Birthday to Erik!!!

I think that's all for now, sweeties (this is your Mom, - I can call you that!)

Lots of love to you both,

Mom
