Hi everyone,
Ilived in Speke from 1951-1978. Firstly in the prefabs in Sandgate roadD which was at the bottom of Dymchurch road and Appledore road. Has anyone any photos or memories of these prefabs? Remember walking to St Christophers school past the crescent,( Did the newsagents there incorporate a post office inside) and the Smithy/Library. Miss France the school secretary lived in the row of houses opposite the library. Mr morgan the headmaster a strict disciplinarian(they all were in those days) I remember watching re-runs of the 1960 European cup final between Real Madrid (7) and Eintracht frankfurt(3) when the football pitch was frozen or unplayable. Moved to Damwood Road in 1959. My parents still live there opposite Hinckley walk. Happy days spent in the Damwoods and sliding across frozen ponds in the fields around the woods in the winter. Being chased by the farmers alsation dog in the fields between the woods and the river before the airport runway was builtin the summer. Later on Nights and saturday afternoons spent in Dunlops club honing my snooker skills, and of course the Pegasus pub. The bar and lounge were packed at weekends and the dunlops workforce kept it busy in the week. Anyone remember me or my family, my brothers Michael, and Kevan and sisters Pat and maureen.
