Subject: Fanon, probably. (r)

So, suddenly I'm wondering why Madeline didn't have a scheme for her own future *seperate* from Paul's

I'm not sure why you would assume she didn't.

TPTB left her motivations and ambitions in this regard pretty vague, really. While her loyalty to Operations was well-established, and I think her first preference was probably to continue working with him if at all possible, I didn't see her behavior as totally excluding any other option, either.

I think if I were going to make an assumption it would be that she *was* interested in moving up/out independently from Paul....but I'm honestly not sure if that is based on what canon presented us with, or my own view of what a talented and intelligent woman *ought* to want to do.

As you say, canon doesn't give us much beyond establish her working relationship with Paul and George's little throwaway line about Siamese twins.

And fanon tends to present her (where she isn't just insane) as pretty much the behind-every-great-man poster girl.

So - once it occurred to me to even pose the question about Madeline's vision of her own future, I realized I wasn't sure what the answers might be.

Do you think she had personal ambitions for herself inside Section/Center et al separate from her partnership with Paul? (not in opposition to, just her own and not necessarily linked with his....)?
