for Madeline, her choice for suicide also had to do with her desire for control. I can't see Madeline letting herself be taken to the white room and shot in the back of the head. It's just not her style. And why would she want to hang around Section and watch Nikita in a position of authority over her?

I'm a retail store manager. I hire and train new people all the time. If suddenly, for some reason, the CEO of my company marched into my store and put one of the new people I had hired...one of the new people who never listened to me and never fully understood my training and the store goals, mind you...if they suddenly put them in charge of my store? Hell, yeah, I'd walk. There is *no way* I could work under someone like that.

I can see Madeline thinking the same way, but she didn't necessarily have the option of walking out.
