Subject: How much is too much?

I got this comment today on my Live Journal:

Your not even a real writer. All you do is steal other peoples dialogue and pretend its your own by putting a few sentences before and after. First you lie then you steal. You are so pathetic, and I’m sure your “fans” if you have any know this. Do us all a favour and just close your LJ since you can’t write anything original.

It was sent by “Anonymous,” but as I know her IP, city and state (via sitemeter) she is not unknown to me at all. This is the same woman who bounced from thread to thread in the “Roygate” piece I posted hurling insults and picking fights. I don’t take her seriously, as she is obviously either sick and twisted or simply needs a life; perhaps a bit of both.

But I did wonder. I know the last few fanfics I posted are *very* heavy on original dialogue; I don’t deny that. In fact, it’s in the header of every piece I write if I use more than a phrase or two. I don’t “steal,” but I do borrow; though I delete, add to, shuffle, paraphrase and alter the actual verbiage in various in sundry ways to fit the plot of the fic.

But how much is too much? I really need to know, as there are six more fics in this arc in which I borrow snippets of dialogue. I’m not trying to improve on the original, or in anyway claim it as my own; but I do write around it. Any thoughts?
